Recharging & Prioritising Self-Care: Finding Balance in Life
I had a call with a colleague this week.
Her first comment was an apology on how she looked. (She looked great btw)
Her second comment was “I’m on a knife-edge.”
She’s single-handedly dealing with growing her business and coping with 2 teens – one of whom has crippling anxiety, (and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.)
Is this how family life is?
Jumping from one calamity to the next. It’s certainly not what we were planning when we were younger, in the honeymoon period of parenthood.
There are indeed times when we feel drained and frustrated when things don’t go as planned.
We feel confused and isolated and desperate for a pause in the chaos of life.
In this blog post, I share my personal experience of feeling overwhelmed and the importance of taking time to recharge and prioritise self-care.
1. Acknowledging Our Limits:
It can be a shock to realise that we are not invincible and that we need to slow down. Accepting our limitations is an important step towards finding balance and taking care of ourselves.
2. Embracing Time for Self-Care:
Recognising the need for self-care, and it’s not always lavender baths and getting your nails done.
I am hibernating for a while and decluttering my house.
I know that after countless trips to the recycling and charity shops my house will somehow feel a little bit “freer”. Energetically I’m beginning to feel it already.
3. Reflecting on Priorities:
My primary core value is Family.
First and foremost – non-negociable.
But sometimes, if I am not careful, I neglect to prioritise my own well-being. This leads to stress and burnout. Joke’s on me – because this is what I guide others away from! And it is for this very reason, that I harp on about putting ourselves back onto our own agenda
4. The Importance of Self-Care:
To rejuvenate and regain my energy, I focus on self-care activities such as nourishing food, walks in nature, a digital detox, uplifting podcasts, jigsaw puzzles, reading, a massage, and plenty of tea. It’s crucial to practice what we preach and prioritise our own well-being.
Taking care of ourselves is essential for our overall well-being. When we feel drained and things don’t go according to plan, it’s important to acknowledge our limits and make time for self-care. By finding balance and prioritising our own needs, we can recharge and be better equipped to support others.
